About Convince Me To Read Reviews While we all have fairly similar tastes, sometimes we need a little push to read a certain book. The Convince Me to Read Review will be a review of the novel plus a section on why we think the other would enjoy it.   Jamie’s review This was really cute! There were some moments of infodumping and awkward phrasing but the story was adorable and I want more (good thing I have the other two books on queued up!). I really liked Hannah and all her glory. I thought she was a great MC […]

Disclaimer: We received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affects our opinion of the book. Dani’s Review DNF @ 43% I think I did quite well making it this far! This book had so much promise, and I enjoyed it for a little well. But it was so bogged down with detail that I just lost steam. There was just not enough plot and too much world-building, coming across more like a sociological text on the culture of the asha and the kingdoms they operated in. It took a quarter of […]

The Convince Me to Read Review will be a review of the novel plus a section on why we think the other would enjoy it.   Jamie’s review I really liked this book. It is probably my favourite that I’ve read of the retellings for #12DaysOfDiversity that I have hit up this week. But it still wasn’t exactly a retelling, rather it had some of the same characters and a similar theme. I would say it […]

BAMF Review: Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones

This was one of those books that we both felt pretty neutral on because while it had pretty prose with vivid descriptions that transported us into the world, it left us wanting a lot more. This felt over before it really began and had us wishing the pace slowed down so we could savour the story, the relationships, and the world just a bit more. While every story is a copy of a copy of a copy, and WINTERSONG is technically a retelling, this story felt like nothing new. It was too easy to compare this one to others that […]

Dani’s Review DNF @ 19% This review comes as a surprise to me. I didn’t think I’d love this book, but I thought I’d like it well enough. And it started out on the path of 3 stars, which is good in my opinion. (4 is great, 5 is OMFGAMAZING.) But it quickly lost steam. After Darius discovered his powers in chapter 1, nothing really happened. It was all very repetitive, with Darius getting angry thanks to his new powers, reacting and then regretting getting angry. I got so bored of him regretting everything. I also didn’t feel like the […]
