Dani’s Review DNF @ 19% This review comes as a surprise to me. I didn’t think I’d love this book, but I thought I’d like it well enough. And it started out on the path of 3 stars, which is good in my opinion. (4 is great, 5 is OMFGAMAZING.) But it quickly lost steam. After Darius discovered his powers in chapter 1, nothing really happened. It was all very repetitive, with Darius getting angry thanks to his new powers, reacting and then regretting getting angry. I got so bored of him regretting everything. I also didn’t feel like the […]

Dani’s Review I almost started my review the same was Jamie did, then saw her opening and changed my mind. We’re clearly merging minds. Anyway, I did like this book. I’m a whopping 15 years older than Annie and Jason, but I was still able to very much relate with both of them. Annie was so optimistic and naïve, constantly having ideas and insisting that things were done a certain way, so I can […]

Dani’s Review One thing made this book really interesting for me: the cultures. As in the real world, there were some similarities between the different peoples, such as the religion and writing, though, due to natural development over time, there were also distinct differences. In our interview with her, Kathy talks about how she based the writing in SWORD & VERSE on her study of Latin and how language changed over time in different regions. You can see evidence of that in the book in the way the writing systems had similar basic characters but different interpretations dependent on where […]
