Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. It is a weekly meme to showcase the books we have bought, borrowed, received for review, or were given as a gift. As well, we will tell you a bit about the past week and what to expect in the upcoming week!
THE MOST EXCITING ADDITION… I got an ARC for WHEN WE COLLIDED by Emery Lord, and it’s so freaking pretty. I love colourful things, and the ARC cover is basically an explosion of colour (see it here). eARCs that I received were HOW WILLA GOT HER GROOVE BACK by Emily McKay, CURSE OF THE SPHINX by Raye Wagner and LOVE ME, LOVE ME NOT by Alyxandra Harvey.
I also got two of my preorders on the 26th: ALL THE BIRDS IN THE SKY by Charlie Jane Anders and THE LOVE THAT SPLIT THE WORLD by Emily Henry. Along with ATBITS, I ordered Rick Yancey’s THE 5TH WAVE and THE INFINITE SEA. I’ve been told the series is great, and I want to read these before the next book, THE LAST STAR, comes out.
Finally, I cashed in a Kindle code for SHIP OF MAGIC by Robin Hobb, as it looked like the most interesting book in the lineup that I hadn’t read already, and I’ve been told Hobb is ace at fantasy. We shall see!
I got a TRUTHWITCH poster and signed bookplate from Susan Dennard on Friday, which I’d totally forgotten about signing up for. Oops! I’ve also been promised a tote bag for MORNING STAR, so I’m hoping that comes next week! I did get a box full of Japanese treats from Elise Kova because she went to Japan, and I was feeling homesick. I may have cried a little.
Honestly, guys, I wish I could take a month off of work to just read. I have so many good books!
This week I got accepted for REBEL OF THE SANDS by Alwyn Hamilton on Netgalley. (Can we get a squeal for this?) Because I AM SO EXCITED for this one). I also received VICIOUS by V.E. Schwab and OPEN ROAD SUMMER by Emery Lord from Jamie, my ever so lovely co-blogger. These pretties were my Christmas presents from her (yes, we did a very late Christmas exchange haha).
I also got some swag! Jamie sent me a bookmark of THE LOVE THAT SPLIT THE WORLD by Emily Henry. And yes, I think this means that we can conclude that Jamie definitely spoils me. My pre-order cards for A GATHERING OF SHADOWS by V.E. Schwab came in, as well as a set of bookmarks of THE PROPHECY OF SHADOWS by Michelle Madow.
This week there was a book market in Rotterdam. It happens every year, and the people that organize it basically by a shit ton of books that stores need to get out of their hands, which means that we readers can get them cheap, yay! Only down-side is that the English books are a bit lacking. I did pick up one (restraint people, restraint) book though! If you’ve read out about page you’ll probably know that I am a bit of an exercise junkie (*cough* understatement *cough*) and I love cooking healthy and clean food, so I picked up POWERFOOD by Rens Kroes. The book features a lot of recipes for a happy and healthy lifestyle, and since I loved her other cookbook I’m pretty sure I will enjoy this one as well.
This week I received FACSIMILE by Vicki L. Weavil for review as I am part of the blog tour! I also received an eARC of SEVEN WAYS WE LIE by Riley Redgate (which I loved!) and we will be featuring an interview with her on the blog sometime in February 2016, which is super exciting. As well, I was lucky to grab a “Read Now” copy of THE GIRL FROM EVERYWHERE by Heidi Heilig off of NetGalley.
I also got some cool swag from Mia Siegert for JERKBAIT which you can see here! As well, because I am #obsessed, I also received a set of pre-order cards for A GATHERING OF SHADOWS by V.E. Schwab and a signed bookplate for when my copy comes in! A while ago, Emily Henry, author of THE LOVE THAT SPLIT THE WORLD, ran a pre-order campaign where she would send you things and I receive those in the mail this week. Thank you to these lovely authors for sending me this stuff!
I had pre-ordered both FIRSTS by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn and THE YEAR WE FELL APART by Emily Martin that arrived this week, which I was very excited about. As well, my pre-order of BLACKHEARTS by Nicole Castroman arrived in my mailbox even though it isn’t due out until February 9th. However, it is a lovely book and I highly recommend you picking it up!
I also opened a US mailing address and Elise Kova sent me THE CUTEST LITTLE KITTY MANGA EVER and ARPEGGIO OF BLUE STEEL, Volume 3 to add to my collection as a Christmas present. Thank you for that!
Luckily I am going to see Pierce Brown in February for his MORNING STAR book tour, so I picked up a copy of GOLDEN SON from BookOutlet to get signed. When I went to pick it up, I also splurged and bought some graphic novels and manga. I picked up a couple volumes of FABLES and FAIREST that I didn’t own, the first volume of A SILENT VOICE, and NEIL GAIMAN’S LADY JUSTICE, VOLUME 1!
