A bit about Dani
I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth, but I was born with a book in one hand and a red pen in the other. I absolutely love reading, but I am also a self-confessed grammar nazi, so if a book is riddled with errors, my enjoyment definitely lessens…and so does my star rating. While a book is more than just its words, I believe its the author’s responsibility to ensure that their words are fully able to convey their story.
I love sharing my reactions to scenes as I read, so Goodreads and Twitter are my havens. I am a sucker for any kind of romance in books, so I’m a true shipping admiral. I don’t mind tropes or spoilers, which seems to make me an anomaly in the bookish world.
I am originally from South Africa, but I grew up in China and Japan, going to international schools with other people from all over the world. I now live in the UK and work for an online education company. Being immersed in an international environment is important to me, and it means that I am happy reading diverse books from all over the world.
In high school, I wrote for and then co-edited the school newspaper. Towards the end, I also took to beta reading and editing for Project Team Beta, a group that started off catering to Twilight fan fiction writers and then expanded from there. I did this for a couple years before university required more of my focus.
I earned a Bachelors of Science (Honours) in Occupational Therapy in 2012, but my professional life took a left turn, and I went instead into customer service, then technical customer services, finally ending up in tech support and IT project management. I like structure, process and getting things done!
I started blogging back in April 2015 at Dani Reviews Things. Since then, I’ve felt less like a workaholic, read more widely and been to my first bookish event, the Young Adult Literature Convention in London. I’ve provided beta reading two authors, including one who is now officially published and best-selling! I’ve also made some amazing friends, including my new international besties, Jamie and Iris! 🙂
The Books Dani Enjoys
I read an assortment of genres, mostly within Young Adult, with New Adult in the running. I absolutely adore Fantasies and Dystopias, but I also enjoy Science Fiction, Paranormal, Romance and Contemporaries. Unlike Jamie, I love a Happily Ever After, but it’s not a prerequisite. Having grown up travelling, I appreciate books set in distant places with diverse characters. As an IT/science geek and feminist, I love strong, progressive, kickass characters and girls who can code.
